…only goes to show how much women are devalued and objectified by longstanding patriarchal institutions. To be more specific, it means that a woman feels as though the only way she can get the same kind of power as a man (via promotions, pay raises, or what have you) is to hyper-sexualize herself and use her body as a means of gaining power. Thus, even by gaining power, she is still subservient to a patriarchal society and cannot truly be blamed for her manipulation thereof, because she is simply achieving the same respect that a man would get by his work ethic, experience, etc. By degrading her body as a tool and using it for the express purpose of rising in professional standing, she is becoming even more a victim to societal norms than she was before, because, yet again, she is becoming a body—not an employee or coworker or even a human being, for that matter—and so her calculating actions cannot truly be seen as antagonistic or blameworthy. Does that sound logical to you?
Yeah I totally get what you’re saying! I’d prob. argue the same thing, although you’re a lot more articulate than I could be trying to argue with my mom
But yeah, basically, the patriarchy sets up a system so that women are only valued for sex, and thus are taught their sexuality is their only source of power. I wouldn’t call it “degrading herself/ her body” so much as “working within the system that reduces women to their bodies.”
your mom’s response, i think, is indicative of a whole other layer of problems with society, where sexist attitudes are so internalized we start blaming women for adhering to/working within those shitty patriarchal systems, even creating them themselves.
Sexism sucks. Way to fight back!
that dude is like exuding frightening levels of active, conscious misogyny. like even if his blog is a joke i’m still gonna stay 9000 miles away from it
Yeah like, decriminalization over legalization is what a lot of people say.
good point.
their blog is literally like “patriarchy will rule 5eva bc women are weak!” god where do these people even come from
fun fact: that post about hitler was reblogged by (from what i can tell of their blog) an actual nazi. I’m defintely slapping tws or something onto my “hitler” tags from now on
(uncivilwar13 in case you wanna block)
Damn, the spellbook said the salt would protect against witches and dipshit MRAs. Time to go shopping again.
like tbh i don’t know a whole lot of specifics/stats about sex work, but yeah I totally understand how you feel and I have a pretty similar view. I know there’s problems with things like, disproportional punishment of sex workers especially compared to the virtual lack of any punishment of pimps/the guys who hire them, cops confiscating condoms, harassing/arresting women who look like the might be sex workers with no evidence, etc.
But yeah, I understand your problem bc there’s definitely a risk of exploitation. I think it’d be a lot easier to control that actually, if sex work was decriminalized, but yeah. It’s a grey subject.
like if you say things like “no but hitler actually had some good ideas” you’re not being edgy, funny, insightful, or even original. You’re just making yourself sound like a nazi. don’t do it.
